Phoenix Suns: 5 trade possibilities for Troy Daniels
3. Philadelphia 76ers
For all the conjecture about whether Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler can co-exist and the concerns over their floor-spacing, the Philadelphia 76ers are a much better 3-point shooting team than they’re given credit for. They’re making 35.9 percent of their triples this year, which ranks eighth in the NBA.
Since Butler’s first game with the team on Nov. 14, the Sixers have been even better on that front, making 37.1 percent of their 3s (seventh in the league). Even so, adding another sniper like Daniels to a stable of shooters converting over 38 percent of their triples — Butler, Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler and J.J. Redick — wouldn’t hurt.
Mike Muscala and Zhaire Smith‘s contracts work here as well, but the Sixers need a stretch-big in the rotation and there’s no way they’d be willing to give up on their rookie wing just yet, even if he’s been out injured the whole year. That leaves Justin Patton, the unused center who’s played exactly one game in his NBA career due to injury.
Patton isn’t due to return to practice until February, and the Suns could give this former 16th overall pick a short look before he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, but they’d mostly be capitalizing on a future second round pick. Their 2019 pick wouldn’t be particularly valuable, so pushing for a 2020 or 2021 second-rounder would make more sense.
