3. Build the supporting cast

The No. 1 goal for the Brooklyn Nets entering the offseason will be adding big-name free agents to their team. Bringing aboard players like Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler or Klay Thompson are obviously big moves that would help this team take the next step. However, the importance of surrounding star players with a roster than can help them compete night in and night out cannot be overlooked.

Spencer Dinwiddie could be a meaningful trade piece for teams that need to fill a hole at point guard or stack some extra roster depth. If Brooklyn would be able to exchange Dinwiddie for a viable starter or role player whose contract wouldn’t compromise their free agency goals, this could not only save them time in the offseason, but also help entice prospective signees.

The right team placing a high value on Dinwiddie could work in the Nets’ favor. Finding a way to swap out a player you don’t see utilizing in the future for a rotational piece, like the Phoenix Suns’ T.J. Warren, the Orlando Magic’s Jonathan Isaac, or the San Antonio Spurs’ Jakob Poeltl, could give them a head start on summer moves.
