5. Once a Knick, always a Knick

Last season, the Knicks’ jerseys had the saying, “Once A Knick, Always A Knick” on the collar. It was nothing more than words on their jersey, as there seemed to be a disconnect from the history of the organization. Everyone remembers the embarrassing situation with Charles Oakley. However, David Fizdale has made it a point to change that.

Fizdale has had old Knicks players come in and talk with the roster. Legends such as Patrick Ewing, Clyde Frazier and Bill Bradley have spoken to the team. Recently, Bernard King also spoke to the team.

With all of the greats that the organization had access to, it was an avenue of knowledge that was not being used. Fizdale, Mills and Perry have wanted to change the culture and attitude throughout the organization. Bringing back the legends that won in New York is a good step in the right direction.

Despite having the youngest roster in the league, it looks like the players are buying in. They’re not the most talented group, but they compete each and every night, bringing plenty of energy and effort. That is one thing that players can control every game, and thus far, the Knicks have provided that.

Despite the 4-8 record, the Knicks have a point differential of only -2.6. That is impressive, especially since they have already played six games against playoff teams from last season. They have not won any of those games, but being competitive is a step in the right direction.
