Philadelphia 76ers: 3 exciting trade targets to consider
By Simon Smith
3. Kyle Korver, Cleveland Cavaliers
With the Cavaliers now 1-7 and Kyle Korver turning 38 in March, this marriage make little sense moving forward. Furthermore, when you consider the Cavs will be without All-Star forward Kevin Love for the next month due to a foot injury, there’s every chance the Cavaliers will be looking to overhaul the roster quicker than they thought.
As a result, a player such as Korver represents as an ideal trade candidate. With $11 million in guaranteed money owed through 2019-20, Korver fills vital needs for the Sixers at present, those being depth and perimeter shooting.
Last summer, the following story from Sam Amico of Amico Hoops indicated that the Sixers were interested in trading for the sharpshooter this past offseason:
This has been recently followed up in a report from Brian Windhorst and Adrian Wojnarowksi of ESPN, who among other things stated:
"“Meanwhile, the Cavs have initiated testing the trade market for guard Kyle Korver in the past several days, sources said. There was some trade interest in Korver last summer, and the Cavs are circling back on those talks.”"
Given what he has to offer, and the continued surge in 3-point shooting across the league, there’s bound to be no shortage of suitors for Korver’s services.
This trade addresses needs for both teams. For the Cavaliers, they are receiving a young guard in Landry Shamet, who was the No. 26 overall pick in this year’s draft and has already earned a spot in the regular rotation, recording double figures in scoring on three separate occasions.
Furthermore, they’re receiving a future second round draft selection, while also adding veteran guard Jerryd Bayless for salary cap purposes. A better deal for the Sixers would just be Bayless and the second-rounder for Korver, however.
For the Sixers, this naturally provides them with one of the elite 3-point marksmen in NBA history. Additionally, this would likely enable J.J. Redick to resume at his customary starting shooting guard slot, while still allowing for an elite shooting presence coming off the bench in Korver.
