3. Lance Thomas

David Fizdale has talked up Lance Thomas since he took over as head coach. He compared Thomas’ role with the Knicks to the one that Draymond Green plays with the Golden State Warriors. That comparison was a bit ambitious, but Thomas is a useful player.

His bread and butter is his defense. He sets a great example on that end of the court for the young players to follow. He is the longest-tenured Knick, bringing valuable experience and knowledge. With Knox now sidelined, Thomas will need to step things up on the other end of the court.

Knox is one of the better offensive players on the roster, scoring 27 points in his first two games combined. Thomas will have to help chip in and make up for that scoring punch.

While offense isn’t his specialty, Thomas has improved immensely as a 3-point shooter. That will be key in soaking up Knox’s minutes, as the rookie helps spread the floor for the guards to attack the rim.

As one of the combo forwards on the team, Thomas is a logical candidate to take over some of the playing time that is opened up by Knox being hurt.
