3. Will Barton posted a “Thrill”-ing first start

Will Barton played swell in his start at small forward. He posted an effective all-around game, totaling 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and splashing 3-of-5 from downtown.

It was nice to see Barton embrace his role as a catch-and-shoot scorer. Although this isn’t always his natural inclination, his performance was helpful to Denver’s offense. Barton seemed to mesh well with the other starters. He played well within the system, despite a couple momentary lapses.

“Will The Thrill” created a spark early, attacking when several teammates appeared tentative. He led Denver with 13 first half points, eight of them coming in the first quarter.

A handful of analysts were unsure of Barton’s fit in the starting lineup. This was only one game, but Wednesday’s performance was an encouraging beginning. More efforts like this will render him an effective starter.
