Nikola Vucevic: Will he be traded?

Looking at the Magic’s roster as it is constructed now, and big man Nikola Vucevic appears an ideal trade candidate. Entering the last year of his current deal, he will hit unrestricted free agency next summer.

More from Orlando Magic

Given how Orlando’s frontcourt is looking more jammed than ever with Isaac, Bamba Gordon and even Khm Birch, it may finally be time to move on from Vucevic. There’s just one problem with that, however: He’s still a really good offensive weapon.

Vucevic has averaged a double-double in four out of his six seasons in Orlando, and he’s one of the best passers on the roster, period. His impressive stats haven’t amounted to any serious winning, but the counterargument is Vucevic had no help.

He has more now than ever before, and even throughout the preseason we have seen all of the moves they Magic have come to rely on — post moves, nifty footwork and continually improving 3-point shooting (31.4 percent last year, his first where he attempted more than one per game).

Although Vucevic does a lot for the Magic, if the right trade comes up, they’d be silly not to go for it. He could be an ideal offensive-minded big man for a playoff team. This could finally be the year Vucevic moves on.
