Cleveland Cavaliers: 2018-19 NBA season preview
By Tony Pesta
Storyline 3: Can they make the playoffs?
Perhaps the biggest question mark around this Cavaliers team will be if they are capable of making the NBA playoffs. In order to make it to the postseason, a few things must happen for this squad.
First off, Kevin Love will need to play at an All-Star level. When playing at peak level, Love is without a doubt one of the best players in the Eastern Conference. How he responds to his new responsibility as the team leader will determine if the Cavs make the playoffs.

Secondly, rookie Collin Sexton will have to learn on the fly. Sexton is likely to take over the starting point guard job for the Cavaliers at some point this season. If they want to make the playoffs, he’s going to need to play up to expectations. Anything less may result in losses that the Cavs can’t afford.
Then, of course, the other young players will need to develop. Larry Nance Jr. needs to prove if he can be effective. Rodney Hood could be extremely productive if he grows comfortable in his role. Lastly, Cedi Osman has the potential to be a jack of all trades and may impact the game in all aspects.
The final piece of the puzzle will be the veterans. How will Tristan Thompson, George Hill and J.R. Smith perform this season? Solid play from these players will be crucial. Furthermore, their leadership and mentoring will be needed to help bring along the growth of prospects on their team.
If all things fall into place with minimum growing pains, there is no reason why the Cavaliers can’t sneak into the playoff picture. They won’t be contenders by any means, but they deserve a ticket to the dance.
