3. Lauri Markkanen is just that good

When the Bulls drafted Markkanen with the seventh pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, we knew the front office was sold on him. He was a prime piece in the Butler trade, so they should be sold on the seven-foot Finnish star. I’m just not sure they thought Markkanen would be this good.

Now, is he as good as Kristaps Porzingas? Not at this point, but when the conversation revolves around young Eastern Conference big men on the rise, Markkanen has to be in that discussion. As a rookie, Markkanen posted 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and showed a toughness many (including myself) didn’t expect.

Here’s the thing: The Eastern Conference is better than I think a lot of experts would have you believe. There’s just no team better than the Golden State Warriors right now. With that being said, the Bulls should be contending for one of the last couple of playoffs spots once spring rolls around.

Why? Because Lauri Markkanen is simply that good. He’s apparently added 14 pounds of muscle and has been a gym rat this summer. He’s only going to get better and when a team’s best player gets even better, it usually translates to more wins.
