Orlando Magic: 3 early reasons for caution next season
By Luke Duffy
3. Depth at point guard
You could make the case that the Magic have the least threatening point guard rotation in all of the NBA right now. Between D.J. Augustin, Jerian Grant and Isaiah Briscoe, there isn’t a whole lot for opponents to be worried about when they face this team.
Even Rodney Purvis, a young guard who showed some potential last season, was moved on to the Oklahoma City Thunder despite the lack of talent available to the team.

Given how most other organizations have a floor general of note, this figures to be a problem for the team this coming season.
What makes this even more alarming is the fact that depth at the point guard position was a known issue the moment the regular season ended.
Yet the Magic, despite being semi-active throughout the summer so far, didn’t do anything to address the need for more quality.
There were guards available in the draft, but Orlando elected not to take that route. The result is there is still no long-term solution to this position.
Should the Magic return to the lottery again next season — a strong possibility as they continue to grow — the hope is they will then take a guard to build around.
For now though, expect to see the three guards currently on the roster slug it out to be the starter, with the fact that there’s no clear-cut choice telling you all you need to know about where this team is at.
