2. You need a talented center to compete in the Western Conference

Some NBA fans and media members might tell you that the age of great NBA big men is long gone and that today’s game is meant to be dominated by point guards and wings with elite shooting and playmaking abilities. However, you cannot deny that there are still plenty of talented big men who make an impact on the game, especially in the Western Conference.

With Clint Capela locked up for the foreseeable future, the Rockets have a center of their own who can match up with all of the talented big men that the team will face in the Western Conference. When the team faces players like Anthony Davis, Karl-Anthony Towns, DeAndre Jordan and Marc Gasol, Mike D’Antoni will have no issues setting his tactics to counter this matchup.

Perhaps the best center in the league, DeMarcus Cousins, decided to join the Golden State Warriors this offseason, so Capela will be a key player on the defensive end to slow down Cousins in addition to the other weapons the Warriors possess. Overall, bringing back Capela ensures that the Rockets have a talented center of their own.
