4. Jaron Blossomgame has earned a two-way contract

Another Summer League standout for the San Antonio Spurs this year was Jaron Blossomgame. The second round 2017 NBA Draft selection has been playing with force and showing why he is deserving of at least a two-way contract with the Spurs this year.

Blossomgame played for Clemson before being selected by the Spurs in 2017. Since then he has played in the G League, averaging 16.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He was very solid in his Summer League games this year, with an especially dominant performance against the Washington Wizards where he recorded 22 points and nine rebounds:

Blossomgame is an intriguing option for the Spurs because of his ability to play both forward positions. With Kawhi Leonard on the way out, the Spurs will need some more depth at the small forward position, and with an aging LaMarcus Aldridge, there may be more minutes to go around at the power forward spot as well.

Two-way contracts offer G League players the option to spend some time with their NBA team (no more than 45 days), and get paid accordingly. NBA teams have two extra roster spots reserved for players they sign to two-way contracts. These contracts are a good way for NBA teams to test out potential good fits from their G League affiliates – and they are also a good chance for G League players to impress in limited NBA minutes.

With the Spurs in rebuild-mode, Blossomgame is exactly the kind of player they should be looking to bring back for a few games during the NBA season. He may not play many minutes, but he has shown a lot of potential and deserves a longer look.
