5. Amida Brimah is the best defender you’ve never heard of

You may not have heard of Amida Brimah before. Like a decent chunk of the San Antonio Spurs’ Summer League roster, he plays for their G League team.

Coming into Summer League play, his chances of making the final roster were probably very slim, but strong play on his part and an injury to Chimezie Metu might have the Spurs looking in his direction.

In the G League, Brimah averaged 6.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and a massive 2.6 blocks in just 22.6 minutes per game. During Summer League, he made his presence felt on the defensive end as well.

The former Connecticut Husky’s most notable performance came during an 83-75 overtime loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday, when he had six blocks in just 23 minutes. His scoring leaves something to be desired, but the defensive impact is apparent.

Brimah’s minutes increased over the course of Summer League, and if he continues his strong play he just might have a chance to crack the final roster. It’s a long shot, but don’t be too surprised if you hear his name again.
