Utah Jazz: 5 takeaways from 2018 NBA Summer League
By Mason McFee
4. The Jazz are composing a masterpiece
Pardon the musical pun, but it’s the truth – the Jazz are stacked.
They drafted Grayson Allen in the first round of this year’s draft, and he’ll help improve upon the 12th-place ranking Utah had in 3-point percentage. Allen showcased more than was initially advertised at Duke, but he’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The Jazz signed Naz Mitrou-Long to a two-way contract (more on him later). They signed Jairus Lyles (of UMBC, shoutout to the home state) and Georges Niang to contracts. They’ve found multiple players they feel are worthy of getting a shot to make their regular season roster.
The Jazz are obviously not the only team that has done this, but it’s a testament to this team’s ability to unearth talent.
Gobert was drafted 27th overall. The Jazz traded up for Donovan Mitchell in last year’s draft. Joe Ingles was an afterthought. The Jazz have a knack for finding talent, and they continue to do so in the unlikeliest of places.
