Washington Wizards: 5 takeaways from 2018 NBA Summer League
4. Chris Chiozza needs a spot on the G League squad
Point guard Chris Chiozza went undrafted out of the University of Florida after his four seasons of eligibility were up. That didn’t stop him from seizing his opportunity to show what he could do with the Wizards’ Summer League squad.
Chiozza was reunited with his old college teammate Devin Robinson and excelled with his presence in the rotation. He put up 10 points and 11 assists against the San Antonio Spurs last Sunday. Although Washington lost 95-90, Chiozza put up a double-double and a game-high 11 dimes to boost his assist average. It was the first of two games where he turned in 11 assists. He finished third in assists per game (7.4) among all Summer League players (as of July 14).
He averaged 4.8 points, 7.4 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.6 rebounds per game. His point production isn’t so much of an asset as his ability to make plays. He put up at least five assists in all five games he appeared in for the Wizards. They may not risk a roster spot on him, but it may be worth signing him to their G League team.
