Charlotte Hornets: 3 reasons Tony Parker is a good addition
2. The Hornets could explore trades for Kemba Walker
If general manager Mitch Kupchak and company are thinking about a total rebuild this season (or even letting Walker go next offseason), Tony Parker could potentially allow the Hornets to fully commit to it.
In this era of point-guards-that-are-elite-shooters, not every team has one and many are looking for one. The Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns are some of many teams that could be potential suitors with enough assets for the Hornets in a Kemba Walker trade.
Tony Parker’s deal could be perfect to help Devonte’ Graham (a four-year point guard from Kansas) land the starting role. Or if Graham isn’t looked at as the point guard of the future, Parker would ideally have two years to help groom a point guard they may receive back in a trade or another point guard they could draft next offseason.
The only catch with trading Walker is the fact that the Hornets would like to move Nicolas Batum with him if they’re fully committed to rebuilding the team. But if they can pull off a trade, they know Parker can teach whoever comes in next, given his history of working with young point guards like Cory Joseph, Patty Mills and, most recently, Dejounte Murray.
