Sacramento Kings: 2017-18 player grades for Bogdan Bogdanovic
Strengths
Although Bogdanovic came into the league primarily known as a gifted shooter, a few of the skills he displayed during his rookie season caught many fans by surprise in Sactown.
His ability play multiple positions, combined with his knack for finding open teammates, played a factor in helping the former overseas star garner heavy minutes late in the year.
"“I think he might get stereotyped as a shooter,” Kings head coach Dave Joerger said to reporters when describing Bogdanovic’s game during the early part of the season. “But he’s a very good playmaker.” “He picked up stuff quickly.”"
In spite of never running the point guard position last year, the 6’6″, 205-pound guard possesses the aptitude to serve as a secondary ball-handler. He could be effective as the lead point guard if called upon, as Bogdanovic possesses stellar court vision that is evident based on the success rate of his passes.
Last season, Bogdanovic finished the season with the best pass-to-assist percentage on the Kings at 9.4 percent, and second in assists with 3.3 dimes per contest. He also successfully handled the task of playing off the ball, as the Serbian sniper knocked down 47 percent of his mid-range jumpers, and shot 39.2 percent from 3-point range through 78 contests.
Despite having a tendency to play passive at times, Bogdanovic shows signed of developing into a complete player very soon during his first season.
His ability to serve as a multi-dimensional threat on offense, combined with his capability of playing solid man-to-man defense, could make him the designated franchise player Sacramento seeks to build around.
