5. Greg Monroe

A reunion with Greg Monroe could be a great move for both parties in this scenario. Monroe is no longer the player that signed a three-year, $50 million contract in 2015. He will never be a major rim protector, but the Pistons don’t need him to do that. They have no centers behind Drummond, but Monroe would be a good offensive threat off the bench.

In his career, he’s averaged no worse than 12.2 points per 36 minutes in any season. For his career, he’s at averaging 17.1 points per 36. Last season, in a reserve role with the young Boston Celtics, he had the highest average of his career at 19.2 per 36, while shooting 53 percent from the field.

Monroe will be an interesting commodity in free agency this summer. Teams are moving away from the classic, plodding center, which will soften the market on Monroe. After signing a partial deal for $5 million midseason last year, he will be hoping for more. However, his skill-set is not as desirable as it was even three years ago. It would not be at all surprising for Monroe and the Pistons to be linked at the start of free agency.
