The Detroit Pistons have a limited amount of available cap space this offseason. This limits possible free agents, but there are still players to consider.

The Detroit Pistons are strapped for cash as things stand right now. Only the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers have less practical cap space. The team will need to get creative to create additional room.

The contract of Jon Leuer is a major elephant in the room. He played only eight games last season due to a nagging ankle injury. That isn’t enough production for a player being paid $10 million per year.

If the team is able to get off either Leuer’s contract, or chooses to move on from Langston Galloway‘s deal, there will be some free agents on the market the team should consider. They could use additional depth behind Andre Drummond. He’s currently the only center under contract for the upcoming season. Small forward is another position that needs attention.

If the team is unable to generate additional cap space, signing any major free agents will be out of the question. For the purposes of this exercise, we’re going to say that they are able to get out from under Leuer’s contract. The team won’t be able to add LeBron James, Kevin Durant or one of the other top-tier free agents, but there are multiple players at lower values that would contribute right away off the bench.
