5. Get rid of Solomon Hill

In the summer of 2016, Solomon Hill was brought to New Orleans on a four-year, $48 million deal. Keep in mind, 2016 was the summer of spending for most NBA teams, with the salary cap increasing exponentially, forcing teams to dole out big dollars to undeserving players.

Now, like other teams are finding out as well, the Pelicans have Hill for another two years at roughly $25 million total — a large number for a guy who’s averaged just 6.2 points per game during his five-year career.

Since entering the league back in 2013, Hill has never been able to find his niche.

Despite a solid 6’7″, 225-pound frame that’s built to defend multiple positions, Hill has never proven himself as a lockdown defender. He isn’t able to space the floor on the other end either, shooting just 33.1 percent from deep for his career.

Hill can’t defend, can’t shoot, and has sustained multiple big-time injuries that have kept him out for long stretches.

It would be in New Orleans’ best interests to trade the former first round pick if possible, shedding his remaining salary and using it to pursue free agents that could actually contribute in some way moving forward.
