It was an impressive 2017-18 season for the New Orleans Pelicans, but they still have work to do in the upcoming offseason.

The New Orleans Pelicans came into the 2017-18 season with the potential to be something special. With both Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins getting a full training camp together, the NBA world would see if the two could dominate in an era that shouldn’t allow them to.

Weirdly enough, the Pelicans had a great regular season topped off by a surprise second round appearance in the playoffs, all despite the fact that Cousins went down with an Achilles injury near the end of January.

Their postseason push saw them sweep the 3-seeded Portland Trail Blazers in the first round before falling in the Western Conference semifinals in five games to the Golden State Warriors.

During those five games, New Orleans kept things competitive more often than not, which shows that something special could be brewing in the Big Easy, but that doesn’t mean general manager Dell Demps should let the offseason pass without any changes.

There are serious flaws within the Pelicans roster as well as looming free agents that need to be accounted for.

With Golden State’s reign on the league fading by the championship, New Orleans’ front office should look to be aggressive this summer in tinkering with its roster in the hopes that it could make the leap in 2019 to possibly advance past the second round and beyond.
