Los Angeles Clippers: 5 reasons Jerome Robinson was a good pick
5. He has the perfect mentor
A 13-year veteran, Lou Williams had his best season in 2017-18, putting up a career-high 22.6 points and 5.3 assists per game. Standing only 6’1”, William’s has placed himself among the best bucket-getters in the NBA, able to score the ball from anywhere on the court.
He can come off pin-downs, attack the basket, pull up from the elbow or operate out of the pick-and-roll. It’s this diverse skill-set that has allowed Lou to last so long in this league, and it’s also one that seems eerily similar to the game of one Jerome Robinson.
Signed to a three-year deal this past February, Williams will be in L.A. for the foreseeable future, giving Robinson the opportunity to pick his brain and soak up all the knowledge he can provide. No doubt Williams has the formula on how to be a score-first combo guard, but Robinson should only be better with an extra six inches in height.
An incoming rookie’s success is obviously largely based off the work they’re willing to put in, but an underrated part of how a player develops is the team they get drafted to and the teammates that are able to guide them.
In Sweet Lou, Robinson has the perfect mentor to help him along as he acclimates himself to the league, teaching him how to best maximize his potential.
