The Los Angeles Clippers surprised many with their selection of Jerome Robinson in the 2018 NBA Draft, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be worth it.

With the 13th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Clippers went a route not many were expecting, selecting Boston College’s Jerome Robinson.

Fans’ and analysts’ confusion wasn’t so much about who L.A. did pick, but rather who they didn’t. Michael Porter Jr. — a consensus top-three pick before the year — was there for the taking, but the Clippers decided to pass, opting for Robinson instead.

A 20.7 points per game scorer during his junior year at Boston, Robinson showed the ability to put the ball in the basket at a high level, enough for Jerry West and company to give him a chance in one of the country’s biggest media markets.

Selecting Robinson is a risky play, especially with the early stages of a rebuild so crucial for a team attempting to establish itself from the ground up, but that doesn’t mean it won’t pan out.

Robinson has skills that translate well to the modern NBA. If he’s able to find his niche on the team and work hard, many will feel foolish for doubting L.A.’s front office for drafting the young guard.
