5. Body and athleticism made for the modern NBA

Chandler Hutchison enters the league with a NBA-ready body. He stands 6’7″ and 197 pounds, similar in size to Shaun Livingston (6’7″, 192 pounds) and Otto Porter Jr. (6’8″, 198). He also has a 7’1″ wingspan and good lateral quickness. This puts him a step ahead of a lot of his fellow rookies.

His height, wingspan and lateral quickness will make things difficult for opponents from opening night. Offensively, he can use his body and decent first step to attack close-outs and fight through traffic to get to the basket. That worked for him at Boise State, as Hutchison had a .519 free throw rate during his senior season.

Defensively, he will be able to guard anyone between the 1 and 3 positions. He could also guard small-ball power forwards in a pinch. However, he will likely need to put on a few more pounds to pull that off consistently.

We’re in an era of the NBA where 3-and-D players with long wingspans are incredibly valuable. The Chicago Bulls made the right move selecting one at No. 22.
