The Chicago Bulls took Chandler Hutchison with the No. 22 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Was that the right move? Here are five reasons why it was.

The Chicago Bulls finished the 2017-18 season with a 27-55 record, their worst since going 23-59 in 2003-04. However, with a roster full of young players with upside, the future still looks bright in the Windy City.

Chicago looked to fortify that future as it entered the 2018 NBA Draft with two first round picks. The team’s first selection at No. 7 was its own, based off of season record. Chicago gained a second pick, No. 22, when it dealt Nikola Mirotic and a 2018 second round pick (No. 51) to the New Orleans Pelicans.

With the extra pick, Chicago selected swingman Chandler Hutchison from Boise State University. The Mission Viejo, California native spent four years on campus, playing under head coach and former Gonzaga assistant Leon Rice.

Hutchison averaged 20.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in his senior season. That production earned him his second All-Mountain West First-team award and his first All-Mountain West defensive team honors.

The Bulls, according to The Ringer, needed an athletic wing with defensive potential. They liked Hutchison so much, they allegedly told him to forego May’s draft combine and promised him that they would select him. Did they make the right decision? Here are five reasons that make the case they absolutely did.
