Minnesota Timberwolves: 2018 NBA Draft grades
Overall
The Wolves had a fairly good draft and they crossed off everything that they needed to off their list. The biggest need was defense, depth and 3-point shooting. By drafting Okogie and Bates-Diop, the Wolves filled out all of those.
They may have reached a little bit with the Okogie pick, but it appears that he might be a sneaky good addition. He was a late riser because he attended Georgia Tech, a team that didn’t have the best season. The talent is there though.

It was not the biggest draft that catches your eyes, and they didn’t make a blockbuster move like they did last year when they traded for All-Star Jimmy Butler. However, they stayed in their lane and did what they needed to do.
Okogie might spend some time down in the G League for the Iowa Wolves because he needs some time to develop, but for the most part, both picks can help the Wolves now. Okogie needs to work on his offensive game, but his defense will make up for anything he lacks on that end.
Bates-Diop is an experienced player and would be a much-needed presence in the lineup. The Timberwolves could try to make a splash in free agency, but for now and for the long haul, this is the cheapest and best possible solution.
The Wolves did well and it will be interesting to see how this draft ends up panning out for them. As of now, it appears to be a fairly good one for Minnesota.
