Overall

It was a busy night for the Hawks and I think they did a fairly good job for the most part. If they would have kept the third pick and used it on Doncic, Atlanta may have come away as one of the biggest winners in the 2018 NBA Draft.

We could be looking back on this night and saying that Doncic was the best player in this draft and quite possibly be one of the best players in the league in a few years. Regardless, the Hawks drafted three players and traded twice.

It was a loaded night and after it was over, it was clear the Hawks are trying to improve on their 3-point shooting. With the Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors winning with the success of the 3-point shooting, it’s no surprise to see the Hawks try and emulate what they did.

Atlanta came away with Young, Huerter and Spellman — not a bad bunch of players, some of which can shoot 3s. Huerter is injured, but should be good to go for the season. Spellman is a work-in-progress, but will be a good depth piece off the bench.

With the NBA Draft over, the Hawks had a fairly successful draft. If they hadn’t traded Doncic, they would have gotten a higher grade.
