Atlanta Hawks: 2018 NBA Draft grades
No. 19: Kevin Huerter, Maryland
I sense a pattern starting here, don’t you? With the 19th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Hawks selected shooting guard Kevin Huerter out of Maryland. He’s a sharpshooting guard who shot 41.7 percent from 3 on 5.5 attempts per game.
Weeks ago, he was just a name in the draft that was looking to go in the second round, but after a fast rise to the top after NBA workouts and the combine, Huerter flew up the boards. He also averaged 14.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.6 steals per game.
One thing to be aware of is that he had surgery on his right hand, which will leave him sidelined for at least two months.
Huerter did play two seasons at Maryland and should have a nice career as a shooter if all else fails. Worst case, he becomes a player that comes off the bench and can get you buckets in a hurry because of his ability to shoot the ball from 3.

It appears that some Hawks fans are starting to get carried away with their draft selections. I don’t think that they will be the next Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson duo because, well… that’s a hard thing to ask of your rookies. I do think they can play well for Atlanta though.
The Hawks going anywhere anytime soon, but I think they are envisioning a 3-point heavy style. With Young and Huerter, they’ll have 3-point threats for years to come.
