Atlanta Hawks: 5 options for pick No. 34 in 2018 NBA Draft
5. Melvin Frazier
The Hawks are going to land what they hope is a franchise cornerstone with their first pick at No. 3 overall. With their 34th overall pick, they should be swinging for the fence, looking for high-upside players. Melvin Frazier would fit that mold.
Frazier is a freak athlete, he just needs to hone that athleticism. Frazier took steps forward in important areas this past season at Tulane, specifically his shooting. Frazier knocked down 38.5 percent of his 3-point attempts after making only 27.2 percent his first two seasons in college.
Continuing to develop consistency with his jump shot will determine how much of his potential Frazier can unlock. Even if his jump shot doesn’t develop, there is enough to like that Frazier can crack a rotation in the NBA.
Frazier is a solid defender with great size. At 6’5” and 200 pounds, Frazier can defend multiple positions right off the bat. In addition to his defensive potential, Frazier is a solid playmaker and good rebounder for his position.
Frazier could sneak into the end of the first round depending on how teams viewed his workouts. If he slips into the second round, he shouldn’t last very long.
