3. Draft the best available player

Everyone knows by now that the 2018 NBA Draft class is very talented. The Celtics were only able to get the 27th pick in this year’s draft — their only first round pick. They could have possibly landed a top-10 pick, but the Los Angeles Lakers’ selection fell out of the desired range of 2-5.

That’s okay for now, as there’s plenty of talent already on Boston’s roster. It hurts not getting it, but I think the Celtics can manage. Having the 27th pick in this draft is still big. They could do a lot of things with this pick as well.

I know the Celtics need depth and could look to fill some of that in the draft, but why not just draft the best available and go from there? You can always find someone else in the second round or even hit it hard in free agency.

At 27, there are a lot of good players left. Having too much of something isn’t necessarily a bad thing. They could look to trade a different player or the player they drafted at a later date, which means that it could all work out in the end.

The big concern right now is getting scorers off the bench and depth behind their star players. There are plenty of best available players at that point if they choose to go in that direction.
