Boston Celtics: 2017-18 player grades for Kyrie Irving
Final grade
Other than his injury, it’s safe to say it was a successful first season with the Celtics for Kyrie Irving. If it wasn’t for the season-ending surgery and only playing 60 games, he could quite possibly have been in the mix for MVP.
It would’ve been a long shot because of the list of names that are ahead of him, but it was a great season for the All-Star point guard. He proved to be one of the NBA’s best offensive weapons with his scoring ability.
He does need to work on his defense for next season and many more to come. One thing is for sure though, he did improve a lot this season. Maybe it was being in Stevens’ system or even just learning more as his career goes on, but either way, he is clearly on his way to even better things in Boston.
If he can stay healthy, next season looks to be bright for him and the Celtics. Even though Terry Rozier shined in the playoffs, there’s no doubt that he’s still the best player and will continue to be the starter barring any trades or serious injuries.
