Los Angeles Lakers: 5 options for pick No. 47 in 2018 NBA Draft
By Dan Lovi
2. Jevon Carter, PG — West Virginia
Another player who is on the rise, Jevon Carter could be drafted anywhere from the late first round to the late second round, though most mock drafts have him going somewhere in the middle.
The senior point guard is arguably the best defender of all the draft prospects and was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year two years in a row. Last season he averaged 17.3 points, 6.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game for the Mountaineers. His 3-point shot has steadily improved over the years, shooting 31 percent as a freshman to 39 percent his senior season.
Carter seems to possess all the tools needed to succeed in the NBA. He’s a proven leader and gritty defender, yet he is projected to go in the second round. His lack of size is the main reason teams might be concerned, but don’t count on the Lakers being one of those teams.
There was another undersized senior point guard the Lakers drafted once upon a time that turned out to be a five-time NBA champion. Not saying Carter will have a similar career to Derek Fisher, but you never know.
