Los Angeles Lakers: 5 options for pick No. 47 in 2018 NBA Draft
By Dan Lovi
4. Brandon McCoy, C — UNLV
One of the few freshmen to hire an agent, Brandon McCoy has started to fall down draft boards after a poor showing at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine.
He had a superb sole season in Las Vegas, averaging 16.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game while making every start for the Runnin’ Rebels. He was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year and led the conference in rebounding.
McCoy is slated to be the last pick according to The Ringer, while Woo from SI has him going a little higher at No. 54. Most mock drafts have him going near the end of the second round.
The 19-year-old center has good size and a respectable post game, but isn’t very athletic. Also, his biggest knock is his outside shot, which is pretty much nonexistent. McCoy thrives in the paint, but he’ll have to develop a consistent mid-range jumper if he wants to stick in the league.
The Lakers are lacking depth in the frontcourt, so they could take a long look at the seven-footer at No. 47. However there is no guarantee that McCoy even gets drafted.
