5. Malik Newman, SG — Kansas

If you have faith in T.J. Leaf turning into a reliable rotation player, which coach Nate McMillan has indicated he does indeed, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to shift focus to guards and consider drafting Kansas shooting guard Malik Newman.

While he doesn’t offer the multi-positional skill-set that many other Pacers currently do, he could turn into instant offense should injuries strike, as he shot 41.5 percent from 3-point range last season, averaging 14.2 points per game before declaring for the draft.

Newman has a ton of athleticism and would be fun to see running the floor in transition as a reserve with the high-energy Domantas Sabonis.

The other downside is that he isn’t that big at 6’3″, and will likely not be a strong defender with only a 6’5.5″ wingspan. He is only listed here at No. 5 because after his critical performance against Duke in this year’s NCAA Tournament, he likely won’t be available when the Pacers’ number is called.
