2018 NBA Draft: 5 reasons Luka Doncic should go No. 1
By Connor Harr
5. Production at his age
All I want from basketball fans is to realize the EuroLeague is high level competition. Actually, it’s the second best competition in the world, even better than college basketball. However, most people are oblivious to what the EuroLeague even is. They think that all international basketball qualifies as EuroLeague basketball, which is not the case at all.
The EuroLeague is the highest level of international professional basketball. It features 16 teams from Spain, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Greece, Israel, Serbia and Russia.
Along with featuring many former NBA players like Thomas Robinson, Norris Cole, Anthony Randolph and Ray McCallum, it also features former college basketball stars like Deshaun Thomas, Brad Wannamaker and Kevin Pangos. The EuroLeague does not contain star-studded NBA talent, but it surpasses college basketball easily.
Luka Doncic is 19 years old and was recently named MVP of the EuroLeague, and is the youngest EuroLeague MVP ever. He also just recently won a EuroLeague championship with Real Madrid.
Here’s how Doncic’s recent EuroLeague production compares to some of the recent first round draft selections with EuroLeague playing experience. He easily surpasses the production of any first round pick in the past three NBA Drafts. What Luka Doncic has accomplished on such a high platform at such a young age is remarkable and unheard of.
