4. Trevon Duval, PG — Duke

Trevon Duval didn’t have the season Duke expected him to have. He came into college as the No. 6 prospect out of high school, but didn’t play to those standards. Some of this may be due to the fact that the Duke Blue Devils’ whole starting lineup was an NBA starting-caliber lineup.

Top-to-bottom, Duke’s starting-five is in contention to all go in the first round. Duval may be the last guy to go for the Blue Devils on draft night, but he certainly is one of the more talented players in this draft.

Drafting him means you’re going to have to work on him to become the player that you want. There’s no denying that his defense is already great, but his offense is the most questionable thing.

He shot 42.8 percent from the field and 29.0 percent from 3. Even if his offense is never that good, you can rely on his defense every night. He’s drawn comparisons to defensive-minded point guard Kris Dunn as well.

Duval has a lot of potential to become one of the better starting point guards in this league at some point. Again, it’s his offense that is the biggest question mark going into this draft.

Knowing that and the fact that Boston already isn’t the best offensive team, it may be a pick you’d want to really consider. The Celtics pride themselves on their defense and that is something that they may find valuable.

For now, you can rely on an immediate impact with his defense and I think that’s safe to say that Boston would be okay with that.
