5. Omari Spellman, PF/C — Villanova

The redshirt freshman from Villanova has entered the draft without hiring an agent, meaning he has until May 30 to make his decision. If he decides to forgo his sophomore season, the 6’9″ 20-year-old could be an option for the Lakers at No. 25.

Spellman averaged 10.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in his freshman campaign. He plays like a prototypical pick-and-pop big man, but with exceptional range. He shot at a 43.3 percent clip from downtown while shooting 70 percent from the free throw line.

Weighing 245 pounds and not overly athletic, Spellman is still nimble on his feet on both ends of the court.

Spellman is probably holding out for a commitment from a team in order to remain eligible for the NBA Draft. If he doesn’t get a sense that he’ll be drafted in the first round, don’t be surprised if he returns to Villanova to help them repeat as NCAA champions.

If the Lakers are the team that decides to take Spellman, he’ll help shore up a backcourt that had limited options at the stretch-4 this past season.
