4. Marvin Bagley III

As I just stated, the Sacramento Kings have big men that they really like in Willie Cauley-Stein and Skal Labissiere, but taking a scoring presence like Marvin Bagley III makes sense to me in this spot. Bagley has been labeled too small to be a 5 and not an effective enough as a shooter to be a 4, so slotting him next to Cauley-Stein, who offers rim protection to back Bagley up, makes sense.

Bagley was an extremely productive player in his lone season at Duke Univeristy, scoring 21.0 points per game (61.4 percent from the field), 11.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He’s a high energy player that can get up and down the floor and was a reliable interior scorer, something Sacramento has lacked in its big men.

His lack of a set defensive position makes him an interesting prospect and with Duke playing zone defense in the latter half of their season, we weren’t given a clear picture as to how well he will be able to defend at the next level. But he’s a great athlete and competitor that I consider to be the big man version of De’Aaron Fox: somebody you have question marks about, yet has so much upside and energy in their games it’s hard to not fall in love with them on the court.

Bagley would add another young big to their crowded frontcourt, but if they want a high energy player that has 20-10 levels of production, I think he’s another safe, strong draft pick for the Kings to make.
