5. Mikal Bridges

I don’t really believe in reaching in the NBA Draft, especially when you have gaping holes in a couple of areas on the court and one player could help with those issues. With shooting and wing defense two of the three major holes on this roster, drafting Mikal Bridges would go a long way in improving those areas of weakness.

Bridges is a three-year rotation player on a pair of national championship teams at the University of Villanova, and developed into an efficient scorer his final season there. On a per game basis, he averaged 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game, shooting a great 43.5 percent from the 3-point line on 6.0 attempts per game.

Combine this improved scoring with his elite defensive ability to guard four positions and it makes him an intriguing prospect for the Kings to consider. He comes from a winning culture, and would align with their recent draft picks in terms of coming from blue blood programs that have had plenty of success in college.

I know Bridges isn’t a top-two or top-three prospect on most draft boards, but in terms of production and knowing exactly what you’re going to get, he’s as safe of a bet in this draft as anyone. Shooting and defensive versatility are coveted at the wing position, and given their stable of big men on their roster, he’s a great option for the Kings.
