5. Michael Porter Jr., SF/PF — Missouri

Michael Porter Jr. is the first option for the Dallas Mavericks with the fifth pick in the draft. A mysterious back injury sidelined him for much of the 2017-18 campaign for the Missouri Tigers. He missed all but two games during the regular season.

Back in 2016-17, Porter looked like a sure thing as a player with NBA potential, averaging 34.8 points and 13.8 rebounds per game as a high school senior. He led Nathan Hale High School in Washington to an undefeated season, including a victory over national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy. Porter poured in 28 points and 17 rebounds in the Washington 3A state title game. Porter was also named MVP of the 2017 McDonald’s All-American game behind a 17-point, eight-rebound performance.

Now, Porter will have to prove himself to draft scouts once again, but don’t count him out as a sleeper pick for the Dallas Mavericks. Porter possesses the versatility to play both the perimeter and on the interior at for this club at 6’10”. He’s a high-risk pick, but he may be worth it depending on how he works out up leading up to June.
