Washington Wizards: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
10. Wizards start off 3-0
The regular season got off to a fast start for the Washington Wizards. Unlike during 2016-17, when they began the year 0-3, they made a complete 180 in 2017-18. After defeating the Philadelphia 76ers in their season opener on Oct. 18, they reeled off two more victories before suffering their first loss.
The win over the Sixers was a huge confidence boost for Washington’s season. Despite starting the season without forward Markieff Morris, they were able to get a victory over rookie Ben Simmons and big man Joel Embiid.
The momentum stayed on their side as they pulled off another two wins over the Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets on Oct. 20 and 23. They were single-digit victories, but as the saying goes, a win is a win.
The Wizards beat the Pistons 115-111 behind 79 points from their budding trio of Wall, Beal and Otto Porter Jr. They beat the Nuggets 109-104, and while it wasn’t in convincing fashion, the Wizards did enough to start the season off on a high note.
Porter made the extension he signed in the offseason worthwhile, averaging 18.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists over the first three games. He was team’s third-leading scorer. After that, he reverted back to his usual self, before re-emerging again as a threat in February.
