Washington Wizards: 3 takeaways from Game 5 vs. Raptors
3. The Wizards bench was lacking in Game 5
The most interesting thing about Washington in Game 5 was the performance of their bench. After putting up just 18 points in Game 4, the bench produced 27 points in Game 5, which was a step in the right direction. On the flipside, the Raptors bench put up 39 points on Wednesday night.
It was reminiscent of a Game 1 performance for Toronto, although the second unit put up 61 bench points in that one. This time, it wasn’t C.J. Miles, but Delon Wright who led the way for the reserves. He had 16 points, while Miles had eight points and Jakob Poeltl finished with nine.
Kelly Oubre Jr. had 14 points for the Wizards, but he made seven free throws in the contest. He was 3-for-11 from the floor and 1-for-7 from 3-point land. Mike Scott had seven points while playing just 14 minutes, a surprising number when you look at it. It was the second game in a row where Scott played less than 20 minutes. He’s averaging 22.2 minutes in the postseason so far.
It was an interesting display from the Washington Wizards bench after being a strength through the first few games. They’ll need to adjust the rotational minutes going forward as it’s hurt them in the past few contests.
