10. Nik Stauskas makes a great first impression

Any time a team acquires a new player, fans treat it as buying a new toy: he’s fresh and undamaged. What made the acquisition of Nik Stauskas even cooler was his pedigree as the eighth overall pick in 2014. A label like that makes it easy to see his potential.

In his debut with the Nets, Sauce Castillo did not disappoint. He went off for 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting, with five 3s. His potential to get hot from downtown was on full display:

A major beneficiary of the free-flowing attack that coach Kenny Atkinson institutes, Stauskas was fearlessly ripping twine. Any time a shooter gets hot for the Nets, he immediately moves up the food chain for shots. Stauskas certainly fit the bill on this night, although the final score did not (the Nets lost by 33).

First impressions aren’t everything, but they’re certainly a great start. Stauskas’s future with the team might be in jeopardy, but if he can produce like that consistently, his value as a sniper will not be in question.
