New York Knicks: 5 goals for the 2018 offseason
As the New York Knicks head into the offseason, plenty must be done if they hope to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
The 2017-18 NBA season for the New York Knicks was something of a roller coaster.
The season began with an unexpected 17-14 record, aided by surprise contributions from the likes of Enes Kanter and Jarrett Jack, two veterans who gave the team a nightly boost of energy. As Christmas came and went, the Knicks began to struggle, ending up at 23-31 on Feb. 6, the night of the season-changing injury.
Following a dunk in the second quarter against the Milwaukee Bucks, franchise superstar Kristaps Porzingis landed awkwardly on his left leg. An MRI would later reveal a torn ACL, ending his season and clouding his future.
The news of KP’s injury sent shockwaves not only through New York but throughout the basketball world, as one of the league’s brightest young stars would be forced to make a lengthy and tedious recovery — one that doesn’t always guarantee a successful return.
Beyond KP’s injury, the Knicks made some head-scratching moves, bringing in point guards Trey Burke and Emmanuel Mudiay despite rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina‘s clear need for development.
With Porzingis, Ntilikina, and Tim Hardaway Jr., this Knicks team definitely has some promise, but if they want to break their five-year playoff drought, changes will have to be made.
Here are five things the Knicks should look to accomplish this offseason in order to further accelerate their rebuild.
