1. LeBron James, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers (Player Option)

Heading into the 2017-18 season, it seemed to be a two-man race for the right to sign LeBron James this upcoming offseason. It was the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Lakers, and no one else really mattered. Then, Embiid took it upon himself to throw the 76ers’ hat into the ring.

Since then, Philadelphia seems to have earned one of the coveted spots on LeBron’s free agency wish list. Although it’s unknown if said list truly exists in James’ world, it’s worth noting that the 76ers are one of the few teams with enough financial flexibility to take on a max contract without having to gut their roster.

On top of that, they obviously offer an intriguing potential landing spot for James. “The Process” has worked, as the 76ers are preparing for a legitimate playoff run and have catapulted up to the top of the Eastern Conference. Adding the King to the equation would significantly increase the franchise’s odds of winning its first title since 1983.

Let’s be honest — would any team with the necessary cap space pass on the opportunity to sign LeBron? He may be 33 years old, but there’s no concern of his tank running empty anytime soon. Just look at his otherworldly performances in 2017-18 for proof of this.

Regardless of their chances, the 76ers figure to throw the kitchen sink at James this offseason. Whether or not he bites is a whole different story. Embiid can dream though, right?
