2017-18 NBA Rookie of the Year ladder: Week 23 power rankings
6. De’Aaron Fox, Sacramento Kings
Last rank: 9th (↑3)
Rookie point guard De’Aaron Fox is another player coming into his own on the Sacramento Kings. He hasn’t matched his career-high 29-point game back on Jan. 28 just yet, but he’s learning to become a volume shooter as well as a distributor in the NBA nonetheless.
Fox is averaging 12.2 points, 3.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game this month. He recorded the third double-double (11 points and 10 assists) of his young career on March 12 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
When his shot isn’t falling, Fox is finding other ways to become a factor. He’s shooting 25 percent from 3-point range in March.
Defense is also where Fox could use some assistance. He’s yet to post a defensive rating below 100 since joining the NBA. His offense is his biggest asset, but defensively he’s been somewhat of a liability. It doesn’t help he’s on one of the youngest teams in the league, but we’ll just call them growing pains.
