NBA Trade Grades: Hornets to snag Willy Hernangomez from Knicks
The New York Knicks have agreed to send Willy Hernangomez to the Charlotte Hornets for Johnny O’Bryant and two second round picks. Here are NBA Trade Grades for the deal.
Less than 24 hours after learning the news that Kristaps Porzingis had suffered a torn ACL, the New York Knicks fanbase received another punch to the gut.
As first reported by Yahoo! Sports‘ Shams Charania, the Knicks have agreed to send promising second-year center Willy Hernangomez to the Charlotte Hornets. ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski clarified the deal would be for Johnny O’Bryant and two future second round picks.
Per Charania, those second-rounders are Charlotte’s own picks in 2020 and 2021.
O’Bryant is merely there for salary filler, but that leaves the final agreement looking like this:
It was no secret Hernangomez was seeking a trade (or at least his representatives were), hoping for the chance at more minutes after such a promising rookie season in the Big Apple. Now he’ll leave one crowded frontcourt for another in Buzz City. For the Knicks, they snag two second-rounders for a player whose development they had seemingly given up on.
The question is, how did each team fare in this exchange? To sort it all out, here are NBA Trade Grades for both sides.
