Offense

The Washington Wizards’ offense was an eyesore for a majority of their road trip. As a team, they averaged 98.7 points per game and shot 42.5 percent from the field and 30 percent from 3-point range in their losses. In victories, the Wizards were a completely different team, averaging 125.5 points per game, shooting 53.9 percent from the floor and 33.5 percent from 3-point range.

To make matters worse, they’re getting less and less from Marcin Gortat as the season progresses. On their latest five-game road trip, Gortat averaged 5.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game. Gortat is averaging just 8.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game with 11 double-doubles on the year. Last season, he finished with 36 double-doubles. It seems he’s checked out with this team and it’s showed in the results lately.

Recent happenings have forced the Wizards to look to a smaller lineup of John Wall, Bradley Beal, Markieff Morris, Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre Jr. to figure things out offensively. Beal hasn’t had trouble adjusting to much of anything as he shot 50 percent from the floor and 52.8 percent from the 3-point arc on their road trip.

They’ll need to look to Morris, Porter and Oubre more on offense to earn more flow and produce more points going forward. Morris put up a season-high 23 points along with four 3-pointers in their victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night. Finding more consistent scoring from Morris, Porter and Oubre is key to the success of this group.
