Utah Jazz: 3 things to hope for in the new year
No. 2: Keep feeding Donovan Mitchell
One thing has become apparent thus far in the 2017-18 season: Donovan Mitchell should be the main focus moving forward for the Jazz.
Yes, I get that Utah still has Rudy Gobert, when he indeed comes back from injury. But even when Gobert is healthy, he isn’t anywhere near the offensive threat that Mitchell is and has become in the first 30-plus games.

Getting Gobert back in the starting lineup alongside Mitchell would be a scary obstacle for teams to have to try and overcome. To have a threat such as Mitchell on the offensive end, along with the presence of Gobert in the paint defensively is a nice combination to have for the Jazz.
So far this season, Mitchell is averaging 17.9 points, 3.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 30.5 minutes per game.
Along with becoming one of the top rookies in the league, Mitchell is also gaining the attention of some of the NBA’s best this season.
One thing Jazz fans should hope for in the new year is much of the same from Donovan. If that happens, Utah has a very nice piece to build around moving forward.
