Pace with Markeiff Morris

While Markeiff Morris is on the court, the Wizards play with a 96.88 pace, the second-lowest on the team only behind Tim Frazier with a 96.87.  For reference, John Wall and Kelly Oubre are both over 100 when on the court.

The biggest problem with Morris’ pace is the difference between when he’s on and off the court. When Morris is off, the team’s pace is 100.33, which is the highest of any player on the Wizards’ roster.

This is inherently where Washington struggles. One of its starters is fundamentally playing at a different pace than what the team wants to play at. This difference may be part of the reason the Wizards’ starting unit has been worse than in previous years.

It would make complete sense to have Morris play with the bench unit. Tim Frazier, who runs the point on that squad, also plays slowly, which would go hand-in-hand with Morris’ style. Even though it’s great having a scorer like Oubre on the bench, it might be time for him to take the starting spot, especially since Morris’ defense has looked much worse this year.
